I love food and have always had a live to eat vs. eat to live mentality. I’ve struggled with yo-yo dieting and go up and down 20lbs easily – often multiple times in a year. I’ve weighed as much as 200 pounds in my adult life and as low as 128. Exercise over the years has been spotty, but 3 years ago, I made a commitment to get in the best shape of my life – took on circuit training and made some great progress. BUT, progress has always been hindered by diet.

simply don’t really enjoy fruit. Vegetables were a very special occasion food that seemed to be a “why bother” when you can have meat and potatoes. I have a sugar addiction and it wouldn’t be unusual for me to go through phases where I’d make a cake and sit and eat the entire raw cake batter as a treat – or breakfast. Then I go hard the other way and try to live off <900 calories a day to balance it all out.

I like my beer and red wine. I tend to save them for weekends, but a stressful day at work could easily change that, or a special occasion, like Tuesday… I wasn’t a breakfast eater, and it wouldn’t be that odd for me to eat only one meal a day. It worked for me for many years (in that I could drop the weight), but as I’ve hit perimenopause, I’m simply not able to drop that weight so easily and this extreme swing eating isn’t helping me achieve my fitness goals. I had worked with Nutritionists before but diet was like a prescription – eat this many servings of this, keep your macros at that, embrace foods you don’t like, etc.

I came to Caven Nutrition because in the Google reviews, I sensed a far more personalized approach that would work with me to figure out a plan that I could adopt. Enter Caddy. She’s been a game changer. She totally got me and patiently worked with me through my tendency to want to revert to old habits.

Just because I ‘looked’ good at times during my successful diet phases – what was going on in the inside of my body was far from good and what I perceived as success was actually pretty harmful. Having recently met with a Naturopath who worked up my blood and found an arsenal of deficiencies and potential health issues – it became clear that my diet was not only ‘not working for me’, but internally, I was a gong show. I thought I ‘got’ nutrition, but I highly overestimated my understanding and with Caddy’s help and guidance, really started to wrap my head around how what I ingested impacted things I ‘can’t see’ like gut health, inflammation, high stress/cortisol, etc.

So the part everyone really wants to know are “the stats”. I went from 159 to 147 lbs, but more importantly, went from 32.2% to 23.6% body fat or, in other words I lost 16 lbs of fat mass and I put on 6 pounds of muscle. I lost 3″ on my chest, 4″ on my waist, 3.5″ on the hips and 3″ on my thigh.

I’m having WAY more gains with my weight training, lifting heavier and feeling strong. Best of all, I feel like this is my new normal and it feels like a lifestyle, not a diet. Caddy got me there – no way I could have done it without her. And she’s simply an awesome human that I consider more like a friend having worked with her so closely. Let’s never underestimate the power of humour in this process.

One week on the Caven program and I couldn’t believe how great I felt.

What a complete transformation it’s been and I don’t just mean my body. It’s changed my life.

I’ll never be able to write how happy and grateful I actually am, but here’s an attempt.

I was hesitant to sign up for the program since all my other attempts at “diets” failed (lose 20 pounds, gain back 25, repeat). But thank God I did, because this isn’t a diet.
