Soup Detox on CTV Morning Live- Is Souping the New Juicing?

Why is doing a soup detox is a great idea?

• Seasonal and warming- Whereas a juice detox can make you cold and unsatisfied
• Blended for easy digestion- to give your digestive system a break
• Your liver needs protein to detoxify properly
• You won’t feel hungry all the time- compared to juicing
• It’s a great way to get a ton of veggies in
• It’s super easy! You can cook in large batches and freeze

1. Bone Broth
Ingredients
• Bones of 1 free range chicken, turkey (or any bones available)
• 4 quarts water
• 2 TBS apple cider vinegar (or other vinegar)
• 1 large onion, chopped
• 2 large carrots, chopped
• 3 celery stalks, chopped
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 bunch parsley

Instructions
1. Place all ingredients, except parsley, into a large stock pot or slow cooker and simmer on low for 24 hours.
2. Add the parsley in the last 20 minutes
3. Carefully strain out all of the bones and discard

2. Pear and Butternut Squash Soup

Ingredients

• 1 medium onion
• 1 small butternut squash, peeled, seeded and diced
• 2 pears, pealed and diced
• 1 cup red lentils
• 4 cups broth
• 1 can coconut milk
• 1 TBS cinnamon
• salt & pepper

Instructions

1. Place all ingredients into a medium pot and simmer until lentils and squash are soft.
2. Puree using a hand blender or food processor.

3. Cream of Broccoli Soup (without the cream)

Ingredients
• 8-10 cups broccoli, chopped
• 1 medium-sized cauliflower, chopped
• 1 medium onion, diced (about 1 cup)
• 3 garlic cloves, minced
• 4 cups broth
• 1 cup coconut milk (optional)
• Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions
1. Add broccoli, cauliflower, onions, broth, and coconut milk to the pot.
2. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for about 20 minutes or until all the veggies are tender.
3. Allow to cool, then puree until smooth using a blender or food processor.
4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Raw Green Soup

Ingredients
• ¼ of a cucumber
• 1 avocado
• 1 clove minced garlic
• 2 sprigs of fresh mint
• 4 kale leaves
• handful of parsley or cilantro
• 1 cup water
• ½ tsp sea salt
• 1 TBS lemon juice
• ¼ tsp cayenne

Instructions
1. Add all ingredients in a blender or food processor and puree.
2. Can add more water if needed to desired consistency.
