Nothing hits the spot on a hot day quite like an iced coffee. The problem? Popular coffee shop versions are often loaded with sugar, fat, and calories that leave you crashing instead of refreshed. (A large Ice Capp packs over 500 calories and 66 grams of sugar!)
The good news is that you can recreate that frosty, creamy treat at home in minutes with ingredients that actually fuel your body (and are easier on the bank account). These healthy iced coffee recipes are lighter, customizable, and just as delicious. Plus, if you caught my interview on What a Nutritionist Would Order at Tim Hortons, you’ll know why these swaps make such a big difference!
Healthy iced coffee recipe
Ingredients:
– 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (or milk of choice)
-½ cup brewed coffee (chilled or cold brew for stronger flavor)
– 1–2 tsp pure maple syrup or honey (adjust to taste, or use stevia/monkfruit for sugar-free)
– ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
– Pinch of cinnamon (optional, for extra flavor and blood sugar balance)
– 1 cup ice cubes
– 1 tbsp protein powder (optional, vanilla, chocolate or unflavored, for extra creaminess and a serving of protein)
Directions:
1. Brew coffee and let it chill (or use cold brew for convenience).
2. Add milk, chilled coffee, sweetener, vanilla, cinnamon, and protein powder (if using) into a blender.
3. Add ice cubes and blend on high until smooth and frothy.
4. Taste and adjust the sweetness if needed.
5. Pour into a tall glass and enjoy!
